Why the name ‘Fettle Counselling’ ?

The word ‘fettle’ in essence means fine working. We chose this because our understanding of human beings is that they exist in fine fettle regardless of their circumstances. That they have the resilience, willpower and courage to endure these circumstances.

What motivated the co-founders to start Fettle Counselling?

Fettle Counselling was always conceived as a platform to solve two big problems that we often experience in the mental health industry, particularly in India - One, providing high quality, accessible and ethical services to clients, and two, providing sustainable employment to counsellors who wish to use their skills for the benefit of the community. Therefore, finding that middle ground with our services that are both cost efficient and sustainable has always been a goal and shall continue to be one going forward. We also hope to make our mental health services inclusive to all strata and sections of the society. Moreover, finding creative avenues of normalizing the idea of ‘looking after your mental health’.

Why do we encourage clients to sign up for psychotherapy at Fettle Counselling ?

The psychotherapy process comes with its own benefits. Some of these include: getting in touch with one’s emotions and gaining a sense of clarity on current struggles. These can be in terms of better understanding of oneself, deciding on particular career goals and working around building motivation to work more efficiently; strengthening interpersonal relationships, coming up with healthier coping mechanisms to deal with adversities, becoming more self-aware and self-confident.

What will the therapist be doing with me?

Your therapist will first help you identify goals. Typically, history taking is done so that the therapist has a clear idea of your environment, your stressor, and your participation in the stressor. They will help you come up with concrete goals to work towards and devise a therapy treatment plan. Your therapist may use certain techniques or therapy modalities to help you build insight on your issues. Following this, in collaboration with your therapist, you will come up with strategies on how to cope/ deal better with the situation.

Please note - The therapist does play an active role only in providing you with options and helping you derive solutions. However, the decisions you choose to make are ultimately yours. The benefits you gain from this process will also largely depend on your initiative and commitment in the process.

How long does each session go on?

At Fettle Counselling, our individual therapy sessions are for 50 minutes. Couple’s therapy and family therapy may range anywhere between 60 minutes and 80 minutes.

How frequently should I have therapy to notice changes?

Therapy has been found to be most effective when sessions are held on a weekly basis. When individuals seem to be in distress or crisis, we even offer 2 sessions a week. Changes may be hard to notice in the first 2-3 sessions. Therefore it is recommended that the process is continued for at least 6-8 weeks before judging its effectiveness.

What is the fee per session for an individual therapy session?

Our sessions are charged at a fixed rate of Rs 600 for a 50 minute session for students and Rs 800 for working professionals. These reasonable rates have been fixed in attempt to make therapy affordable and easily available while also being able to cover costs for our therapists.

What is the cancellation and refund policy?

We have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Should the session be cancelled 24 hours prior to the scheduled timing, a refund will be provided, or the session can be carried forward to another day and time. Should the session be cancelled on the same day, there will be no refund or carry forward. In the case of prior cancellations, the refund takes up to a week to be processed. This policy has been created to help keep scheduling systematic and avoid frequent cancellations.
