Tanya Serrao

Tanya Serrao’s foremost belief about therapy is to give clients a non-judgmental, empathetic and reflective space which invokes within the client their most resourceful, creative and self-actualized part of themselves. She understands that each client is a constellation of unique attributes and therefore provides therapy in a manner that is best suited for them. She understands the inevitability of life’s hardships and hopes that therapy can be a place for clients to form healthy and functional meanings in their lives. She looks at mental health through the prism of neuroscience, evolutionary perspectives, existentialism and humanistic approaches.

She also uses Solution-Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy to inform her therapy approach. As a practicing psychotherapist she values being up to date on the current literature and strives to be well informed. Tanya graduated from St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Mumbai in Lifespan Counselling Psychology. She has received additional counselling training from a faculty of very experienced psychologists at Xavier’s Institute of Advanced Counselling. She worked as a school counsellor where she provided one-on-one as well as group counselling sessions and conducted sessions on Life Skills. She has worked with people spanning from different age groups and different presenting concerns. Her interests also lie in working with couples or individuals facing relationship issues, people who have difficulty in focus and motivation, career clarity, stress management, anxiety and depression.

When she isn’t with her book and pen, she enjoys listening to different music genres, watching avant-garde movies and dancing to Latin beats. In her personal and professional life, she abides by the values of freedom, meaningfulness, authenticity and honesty.
